Selection Procedure consists of the following stages :-

1. Physical Standard Test (PST) & Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

2. Trade Test (Skill Test)

3. Written Examination

4. Detailed Medical Examination (DME) & Review Medical Examination (RME)

5. Final Merit List & Appointment

 

1. Physical Standard Test (PST) & Physical Efficiency Test (PET) :

PST (Physical Standard Test): Candidates must meet the required height, chest (for males), and weight standards as per category and region. Height relaxation is available for specific categories such as Scheduled Tribes (ST), Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Gorkhas, Dogras, Marathas, and candidates from the northeastern states.

PET (Physical Efficiency Test):

For male candidates: 5 km run within 24 minutes

For female candidates: 1.6 km run within 8 minutes 30 seconds

For Ladakh Region candidates:

• Males: 1.6 km run within 7 minutes
• Females: 800 meters run within 5 minutes

Candidates who fail in PST/PET will be disqualified from further stages.

 

2. Trade Test (Skill Test):

Candidates who qualify in PST/PET will appear for the Trade Test (Skill Test) based on their applied trade.

No marks are awarded in the Trade Test, but candidates must pass it to move to the next stage.

The test evaluates job-specific practical skills (e.g., electricians, mechanics, pharmacists, etc.).

All the above-mentioned stages for selection are not compulsory to be conducted; they depend upon various situations, and candidates will be informed about any required changes over time.

 

3. Written Examination :

The written exam consists of 100 marks.

Minimum Qualifying Marks:

General/EWS candidates: 35%

SC/ST/OBC candidates: 33%

 

The written test assesses general knowledge, reasoning, mathematics, and trade-related subjects.

 

Candidates who clear the written exam will be shortlisted in a 1:4 ratio (i.e., 4 times the number of vacancies).

 

4. Detailed Medical Examination (DME) & Review Medical Examination (RME) :

• Candidates who clear the written exam undergo a Detailed Medical Examination (DME) to check their physical fitness, eyesight, hearing, and overall health as per Assam Rifles medical standards.
• If a candidate is declared unfit, they can apply for a Review Medical Examination (RME) to challenge the results.

5. Final Merit List & Appointment :

The Final Merit List is prepared based on Written Exam scores and category-wise vacancy allocation.

• Passing all stages does not guarantee selection .
• only candidates ranking high enough in the merit list will be appointed.

Selected candidates will receive instructions for joining training centers for final enrollment into Assam Rifles.
