Selection Procedure and Exam Pattern (I) : Preliminary Examination and Main Examination
The Civil Services Examination consists of following stages :
1.Preliminary Examination
2.Main Examination (Written and Interview/Personality Test)
1.Preliminary Examination:
Number of Papers : 2 Papers
Total Score : 200 marks for each Paper ,total 400 marks
Question Type : Objective Type (MCQs)
General Studies (Paper - I) :Total qualifying marks of General Studies Paper-I of Civil Services(Preliminary) Examination as may be determined by the Commission.
General Studies (Paper - II) : The General Studies Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.
Question Language : The question papers will be set both in Hindi and English.
Negative Marking: one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.
2.Main Examination :

Selection Procedure and Exam Pattern (II) : Interview
Interview/Personality Test: Following types and varities of question being asked for interview (according to Notification) :
1.Questions on Matter of General Interest .
2.To assess the personal suitability of the candidate for a career in public service by a Board of competent and unbiased observers.
3.Test the mental Calibre of a candidates.
4.Test of Intellectual Qualities as well as social traits and interest in current affairs.
5.Test of Qualities such as mental alertness,critical powers of assimilation, clear and logical exposition, balance of judgement, variety and depth of interest, ability for social cohesion and leadership, intellectual and moral integrity.
6.The technique is to reveal the mental qualities of the candidate through natural directed and purposive conversation.
7.Candidates are expected to have interest of the events which are happening around them both within and outside their own State or Country as well as in modern currents of thought and in new discoveries which should rouse the curiosity of well-educated youth.
